Songfacts: Much like Haggard's 'Okie From Muskogee,' this was a patriotic song written as an anti-anti war song during the Vietnam War. And of carp soup, tiger gods, flamingos and floods.A dazzling exploration of lives lived on the fringes of civilisation, Swamp Songs is a vital reappraisal and vibrant celebration of people and environments closely intertwined. Here are tales of shepherds, smugglers and salt-gatherers of mangroves and machismo, frogs and fishermen. Live at the Blue Door in OKC, OK on Ap'Okie Folkies & Freaks: Songs of Oklahoma' A Benefit for the Music Moves Mountains Foundation, a non-profit. The ride opened with the park in 1967 and operated for 13 years before closing after the 1980 season. It was based on the Uncle Remus stories by Joel Chandler Harris and told the story of the animals of the Okefenokee Swamp. We have tried to drain away their demons and tame them, destroying their fragile beauty, botany and birdlife, along with the carefully calibrated lives of those who have come to understand and thrive in them.In Swamp Songs, Tom Blass journeys through a series of such watery landscapes, from Romney Marsh to North Carolina, from Lapland to the Danube Delta and on to the Bay of Bengal, encountering those whose very existence has been shaped by wetlands, their myths and hidden histories. Tales of the Okefenokee was a dark ride at Six Flags Over Georgia, located in the park's Confederacy section (now Peachtree Square). Listen to History of an Artist by Oscar Peterson on Apple Music. I dig the OP’s post everyone experiences the album differently but it’s definitely an experience for every listener. The album should come with a prescription for Xanax. Over seven minutes of empathy and seemingly un-ironic joy followed by wanton destruction, a gritted-teeth recovery track that’s on the cutting edge of painful, the stomp of “Swamp Song”, and finally “1992” for the death blow. The real killer is that the album opens with “Tender”, which is like some kind of cosmic irony. And while it, too, doesn’t strike me as saddening it does set the stage for what we’re in for the rest of side one and all of side two. “Swamp Song” is a bit rougher around the edges. Dark though it may be, the track is definitely about manic (or desperate, if you prefer) energy and so it doesn’t feel sad, exactly maybe more like the proverbial train collision from which one can’t look away. My 19-year-old self was blown away by “Bugman” and the music changing to reflect the experience documented in the lyrics.
